Mount running backs Mike Lovell (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) and Kevin Cocanougher (Louisville, KY/DeSales) each rushed for over 100 yards and scored three TDs between them as the Lions rolled to a 37-0 win at HCAC-foe Anderson University. The Mount, 4-0 overall, is 2-0 in the HCAC while the Ravens fall to 1-3, 0-1. The Lions will host their 2007 Homecoming game on Oct. 6 against HCAC-opponent Hanover College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Lovell and Cocanougher each scored rushing TDs in the first quarter, and kicker Kevin Koch (Cincinnati, OH/Roger Bacon) added the PAT kick each time, giving the Mount a 14-0 lead. Mount quarterback Vince Palmer (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) tossed his seventh TD of the season, an eight-yard scoring strike to receiver Jonathan Burrell (Louisville, KY/Seneca) early in the second quarter as the Mount built a 21-0 lead at the half. While the Lions were generating a solid offense both on the ground and in the air, their defense was keeping the Ravens off the scoreboard and in long yardage situations. The Mount held the Ravens to 30 yards rushing on 22 carries and four-of-15 on third down conversions in the game.
Koch added a 25 yard field goal, while Cocanougher and fellow backfield mate Brett Boehm (Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) added third quarter rushing TDs to put the Mount comfortably ahead. The Lions amassed 542 yards of total offense in the game, with 361 yards of that on the ground. Lovell finished with 122 yards rushing on 19 carries while Cocanougher had six carries for 115 yards. Mike Jones (Columbus, OH/Walnut Ridge) had a team-high eight receptions for 94 yards. Palmer finished 14-of-23 for 139 yards, one TD and no interceptions.
Alex Harbin (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) had three sacks in the game while teammate Kyle Prosser (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) had a team-high 10 tackles. Nick Yahl ( St. Mary's, OH/Memorial) added nine tackles and an interception. The all-time series is tied between the two teams at five wins each, however, the Mount has won the match-up the past four seasons.
