Mount loses second HCAC game of the season on a late field goal by Anderson University

Anderson University's Tristan Cork booted a career-best 46 yard field goal with six seconds remaining today as the Ravens knocked off the Lions at Schueler Field, 10-9. The Mount falls to 3-2 overall, 1-2 in the HCAC while Anderson improves to 3-2, 1-1. The Lions will travel to Hanover College for an HCAC match-up on Oct. 18. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.

The Lions got on the scoreboard first today when Brian Weimer (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) booted a 26-yard field goal with 7:15 to play in the first quarter. Anderson then pulled ahead 7-3, thanks to a seven-yard TD run and a PAT kick with 3:28 left before halftime. Both teams defenses would bend but not break in the scoreless third quarter until the Mount forged ahead, 9-7 on a Jake Davis (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) 11-yard TD run with 7:55 to play in the fourth quarter. The Lions got off a bad snap and hold on the conversion as the PAT kick was not attempted, but still held a 9-7 advantage.

On the Mount's second-to-last possession of the game, they drove down to the Anderson 34-yard line where they were faced with a fourth-and-five. Lions quarterback Vince Palmer (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) quick punted as the Mount downed the ball at the Ravens one-yard line. Anderson then put together the drive of the game, behind a strong rushing attack, moving to the Mount 29-yard-line setting the stage for Cork's eventual game-winning field goal. Cork had missed two other field attempts earlier in the game, both from 41 yards.

Davis finished with 67 yards rushing while Palmer was 14-of-23 for 158 yards and two interceptions. Tim Meiner (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) led all receivers with six receptions for 72 yards. Erik Prosser (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) had eight tackles to pace the Mount.

Anderson out-gained the Lions in yards, 316-276. The Mount held the edge in possession time, 33:14 to 26:46 and third-down conversions, six-of-17 to the Ravens' four-of-14.
