The College of Mount St. Joseph began their 2011 season at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL, dropping games to Beloit College, 3-0; and Marietta College, 6-0. The Mount, 0-2 on the season will be back in action on Mar. 7 when they play Albion College and Aurora University.
Beloit scored two runs in the first inning against Mount starter Casey Brookbank (Cincinnati, OH/Deer Park), and added a single run in the fourth inning, as they held the Lions to just four singles in the game. Kimberly McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) walked twice as the Mount stranded 10 runners in the game. Brookbank pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs, seven hits and a walk while striking out four.
Marietta scored all of its runs in the fourth inning in the Mount's second game of the day, as they limited the Lions to two hits. Katie Gregg (Walton, KY/Grant County) and Tanya Sefton (Vevay, IN/Switzerland County) each had singles. McElhinny tossed a complete game for the Mount.
