Host Capital University posted a doubleheader sweep today against the Lions, winning by scores of 7-4 and 7-1. The Mount, 4-23 overall, will host Defiance in an HCAC doubleheader on Apr. 22. The Lions are 2-8 in the conference.
Game one against Capital saw the two teams knotted at 2-all after three innings of play, but the Crusaders forged ahead 5-2 after a three-run fourth inning. The Lions would add two runs in the seventh, thanks to Megan McCullough (Middletown, OH/Middletown) and Kim McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County), who each recorded an RBI, but leave two runners on base to end the game.
McCullough had a two-run home run in the third inning for the Mount, her first home run of the season. McElhinny had two hits and pitched a complete game. Tanya Sefton (Vevay, IN/Switzerland County) scored twice.
Capital went to 18-12 on the season after winning game two, scoring all seven of their runs over the last three innings of the game. The Mount's lone run came in the seventh, on an RBI single by Sefton. The Lions had seven hits in the game, and stranded nine runners. Casey Brookbank (Cincinnati, OH/Deer Park) led the offense with three hits, including two doubles. Katie Cohill (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) pitched a complete game for the Mount. ÂÂ
