Visiting Transylvania University, the HCAC Coaches Preseason favorite, swept a doubleheader at the Mount today, winning by scores of 7-0 and 5-0. The Mount, 3-16 overall, 1-5 in the conference, will next play an Apr. 9 doubleheader at Manchester.
Game one saw the Pioneers jump out to a 4-0 score after the first inning. The Lions were held to just five hits in the first game as Kathleen Horn (Florence, KY/Boone County) and Nell Wilson (Cincinnati, OH/Ross) each collected two hits. Casey Brookbank (Cincinnati, OH/Deer Park) had seven strikeouts for the Lions. The Mount left 10 runners on base in the game.
Transylvania had two scoring innings in the second game, plating three runs in the third inning and adding two more runs in the seventh inning, en route to the win. The Lions had lone hits from Kimberly McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) and Horn. Katie Cohill pitched a complete game for the Mount.
