The College of Mount St. Joseph lost a doubleheader today at Manchester College by scores of 11-6 and 2-1. The Lions, 3-18 overall, 1-7 in the HCAC, returns to action on Apr. 11 when they play a doubleheader at Denison University.
In game one against the Spartans, the Lions jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first inning and had a 5-4 advantage after three innings of play but could not hold the lead as Manchester went ahead 7-6 after their at-bat in the fourth. The Lions pounded out 13 hits in game one, as Kathleen Horn (Florence, KY/Boone County) led the way with three hits and two runs scored; and teammates Tanya Sefton (Vevay, IN/Switzerland County), Megan McCullough (Middletown, OH/Middletown) and Abby LaRosa (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) recorded two hits each. Nell Wilson (Cincinnat, OH/Ross) had a three-run home run in the first inning. Katie Cohill (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) pitched a complete game for the Mount.
Game two saw Manchester lead 2-1 after their at-bat in the third ininng and neither team score the rest of the game. The Lions stranded seven runners on base in the game, included two to end the game. Kim McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) and Wilson had two hits each while Casey Brookbank (Cincinnati, OH/Deer Park) had a double. McElhinny tossed a complete game for the Mount.
