The Lions and Grizzlies hooked up fo a conference twin-bill at Franklin College today, with each team winning a game. The Mount posted a 3-1 win in game one while Franklin grabbed a game two victory, 8-0 in six innings. The Lions, 2-11 overall, 1-3 in the HCAC, is back in action on Mar. 26 when they host a non-conference doubleheader against Wittenberg University.
Franklin scored once in the second inning of game one to take an early lead, but the Lions bounced back with two runs in the fifth inning, thanks to an RBI each by Taylor McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) and Kimberly McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County). The Lions would add an insurance run in the sixth inning as Kimberly McElhinny pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits to the Grizzlies and no walks, with one strikeouts, gaining her first win of the 2012 season. The Lions pounded out 10 hits, as Lindsay Griffith (Alexandria, KY/Bishop Brossart) led the way with three hits, including a double, and Mallory Wright (Germantown, OH/Valley View) chipped in two hits.
The Grizzlies reached three Mount pitchers for 15 hits and eight runs in a run-rule shortened second game. Franklin led 2-0 after three innings, added a single run in the fourth, before ending the game in the bottom of the sixth with five more runs. Kathleen Horn (Florence, KY/Boone County), Ashley Moore (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest), and Wright each had two hits for the Lions.
