Mount softball team drops doubleheader at Otterbein University, 10-3 and 7-4

Host Otterbein University used a late scoring offense in both games on Thursday, as they gained a doubleheader sweep over the Lions, 10-3 and 7-4. The Mount, 2-15 on the season, will be back in action on Mar. 31 when they play an HCAC twin-bill at Bluffton University.

Otterbein led by a 5-0 score by the sixth inning in game one, only to see the Lions post three runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 5-3. OU would add five runs in the fifth inning to claim the first game victory. The Lions had five hits in the game, with Mallory Wright (Germantown, OH/Valley View) collecting two hits and teammate Kimberly McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) adding two doubles and two RBI. Tanya Sefton (Vevay, IN/Switzerland County) had the other hit. Danielle Hausfeld (Wilder, KY/Newport Central Catholic) started for the Lions and pitched five innings. She was followed by Erica D'Arcy (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield). The Mount was hampered by three errors.

OU led 4-2 after three innings in the second game, but saw the Lions make the score 4-3 in the fourth when Wright singled in teammate Ashley Tidwell (Goshen, OH/Goshen). The Cardinals would then plate three runs in the bottom of the fourth to push their advantage back to a 7-3 score. The Lions added a run in the seventh inning for the final margin, as Otterbein posted its 13 win of the season in 18 games. Wright collected four hits and three runs scored while McElhinny had two RBI. McElhinny started and pitched 3 1/3 innings while D'Arcy pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. The Lions had nine hits in the game.
