HCAC-foe Manchester College rode a strong offense on Saturday to record a twin-bill swep over the Mount, 12-8, and 12-4 in six innings, dropping the Lions to 4-10 in the conference this season. The Mount 6-27 overall, will resume season action on Apr. 23 when they host a non-conference doubleheader against Wilmington College.
Game one against the Spartans saw both teams score early and often, with Manchester plating three runs in the first and holding a 4-3 lead after three innings. The Spartans would lead 7-4 in the fifth inning with both teams scoring four runs in each of their half of the sixth inning. The two teams combined for 34 hits, as Mallory Wright (Germantown, OH/Valley View) led the Lions with four hits and Ashley Moore (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) chipped in three hits and three RBI. Taylor McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) added two hits and two RBI. Leslie Biggs (Harrison, OH/Harrison) started for the Mount and pitched six innings, dropping her record to 2-2 on the season.
Manchester led 7-4 after three innings in game two, and their three-run sixth inning ended the game early against the Mount, as they out-hit the Lions, 12-6. Lindsay Griffith (Alexandria, KY/Bishop Brossart) had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI for the Mount, while McElhinny added two runs scored. Kimberly McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) started for the Lions and pitched five innings, suffering the loss.
