Lions' softball team ends season with doubleheader home loss to Anderson University

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HCAC first place Anderson University completed an undefeated season today when they recorded a come-from-behind 5-4 first game win and then blanked the Mount, 8-0 in five innings of game two. The Lions end the 2012 season with a 6-33 overall mark, 4-12 in the conference.

Game one saw the Mount jump out to a 3-1 lead after two innings, as Lindsay Griffith (Alexandria, KY/Bishop Brossart) and Taylor McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) each had an RBI. The Lions improved their lead to 4-2 by the end of the sixth inning, when McElhinny walked with the bases leaded to force in a run. The Ravens, however, would take the lead, 5-4 in the top of the seventh when they connected for a one out, three-run home run. Kim McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) led off the Lions' seventh inning with a double, and pinch runner Karen Muddiman (Harrison, OH/Harrison) was sacrificed to third base, but was stranded there to end the game. The Mount left 10 runners on base in the game. Mallory Wright led the Mount with two hits, including a triple, and two runs scored. Leslie Biggs (Harrison, OH/Harrison) suffered the tough-luck loss for the Lions, pitching a complete game, as her season mark slipped to 2-4.

The Ravens scored a run in four of five innings played of game two, and held the Mount to five hits, as they completed their undefeated conference season with a 16-0 mark. Danielle Hausfeld (Wilder, KY/Newport Central Catholic) started for the Mount on the mound. The Lions got five singles from five different players.
