The Mount began play at Transylvania University on Friday afternoon at the HCAC/OAC Challenge, winning their opening match, 3-2 over Capital, but falling later in the day to Baldwin Wallace University, 3-0. The Lions, 3-9 on the season, will complete play at the Challenge on Sept. 22 when they take on Muskingum University and Ohio Northern University.
Capital posted a win in set one over the Lions, but saw the Mount tie the match at two-all when the Lions won set four, 27-25. The Mount posted the win by taking set five, 15-11, as they recorded 55 kills as a team in the match. Hannah Vanarsdall (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) had a solid all-around match for the Lions, garnering 19 kills, four blocks and two service aces. Nicole Sherpensky (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) chipped in 12 kills and four blocks. Janelle Davis (Convoy, OH/Wayne Trace) had 28 assists while Jaclyn Stenger (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) chipped in 24 digs. Michelle Woods (Ft. Wright, KY/Newport Central Catholic) had 15 digs and two service aces.
Bethani Ritter (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) had 13 kills and Vanarsdall added nine kills and seven digs in the team's setback to Capital. Davis collected 21 assits and five digs in the match.
