Mount softball team loses doubleheader at HCAC-foe Manchester College

The College of Mount St. Joseph kicked off 2013 HCAC play on Saturday at Manchester College, dropping a twin-bill to the Spartans, 8-0 and 9-0, both in five innings. The Lions, 3-11 overall, 0-2 in the conference, will be back in action on April 2 when they host an HCAC doubleheader against Transylvania University.

Game one saw Manchester toss a perfect game against the Lions, as they rolled out to a 6-0 lead after three innings en route to the win. Danielle Hausfeld (Wilder, KY/Newport Central Catholic) was the Mount's starting pitcher, tossing 2 2/3 innings and was followed by reliever Taylor McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County). Manchester collected 12 hits in the game.

The Spartans got two RBI groundouts in the thrid inning of game two, and broke the game open in the fourth inning with a seven-run scoring frame. Leslie Biggs (Harrison, OH/Harrison) started for the Lions, pitching two innings, followed by Kim McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County). Claire Wehby (Mason, OH/Mason) and Lindsay Griffith (Alexandria, KY/Bishop Brossart) had hits for the Mount, while the Lions added four walks. Wehby also had a stolen base. The Spartans recorded nine nits in the game.
