The Mount grabbed its first HCAC win of the season on Tuesday afternoon, posting a 4-3 home win over Transylvania before losing the nightcap, 10-1 in five innings. The Lions, 4-12 overall, 1-3 in the conference, resume action on April 3 with a doubleheader at Capital University.
Game one saw the Pioneers get on the scoreboard first, with a first inning run, but a run-scoring single by Megan Erdmann (Ft. Mitchell, KY/Dixie Heights) tied the game at one-all in the second inning. The Mount went up 3-1 in the fifth inning, when Megan James (Villa Hills, KY/Dixie Heights) ripped a two-run double. Transy would tie the game at three-all in the top of the sixth, scoring once on an unearned run. The Lions scored the go-ahead score in the bottom of the sixth inning when Taylor McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) singled in teammate Mallory Wright (Germantown, OH/Valley View), who had singled, stolen second base, and advanced to third on a groundout. The Pioneers stranded the potential tying run at third base to end the game, making a winner of McElhinny. She evened her record at 3-3 on the season, tossing seven innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs, with two walks.
Wright and James led the 12-hit attack with three hits each, while Erdman chipped in two hits.
In game two, the Pioneers scored two runs in the first inning, on a two-run home run, and added seven more runs in the second inning to bolt out to a 9-0 lead. The Mount scored its lone run in the game in the third inning, when Paige Norton (Cincinnati, OH/Reading) doubled in Ashley Moore (Cincinanti, OH/Northwest), who had singled to lead off the inning. Kim McElhinny (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County)and Norton each had two hits, as the Lions left eight runners on base. Danielle Hausfeld (Wilder, KY/Newport Central Catholic) and Leslie Biggs (Harrison, OH/Harrison) pitched game two for the Mount, with Hausfeld suffering the loss, dropping her 2013 mark to 0-3.
