Lions' women's volleyball team goes 2-2 in season-opening tournament

The Mount St. Joseph Unviersity women's volleyball team opened the 2014 season this past weekend at the Birmingham Southern College Invitational, finishing with a 2-2 mark. The Lions split two matches on both Friday and Saturday; defeating Sewanee The University of the South, 3-0 and Piedmont College, 3-1; and losing to host Birmingham Southern, 3-0 and Covenant College, 3-0.

The Mount, 2-2 on the season, is back in action on Sept. 3 when they host Shawnee State University.

Jessica Wilgenbusch (Sunman, IN/East Central) helped lead the way for the Lions over the weekend, recording 47 kills and a .172 hitting percentage, along with 44 digs and nine block assists. Wilgenbusch was named to the All-Tournament team.

Cheyenne Tobler (Verona, KY/St. Henry) also had a solid overall weekend of play for the Mount, posting 43 kills, a .250 hitting percentage, 28 digs, eight service aces and six block assists. Teammates Emily Bostian (Liberty Township, OH/Lakota East) added 36 kills, a .207 hitting percentage and 13 total blocks while Janelle Davis (Convoy, OH/Wayen Trace) had 139 assists and 32 digs.
