Lions' softball team splits two games at Hanover College

The Lions pulled to within one victory of tying the most wins the team has had since the 2008 season when they split an away HCAC-doubleheader at Hanover College, losing game one. 9-0 in six innings, and winning the second game against the Panthers, 13-4. The Mount improves to 16-10 overall, 4-6 in the conference. The Mount won 17 games in both 2008 and 2006, and the Lions will look to equal and eclipse those win totals on Apirl 22 when they play a twin-bill at Anderson University. The Ravens lead the HCAC with a 21-7 overall mark, 10-2 in the HCAC.

Hanover busted open a scoreless first game in the third inning, scoring seven runs and adding two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to record the run-rule victory. The Panthers had nine hits in the game off Mount starter Danielle Nichelson (Glencoe, KY/Gallatin County), who pitched a complete game and dropped to 7-6 on the season. The Mount recorded four hits in the game, with Morgan Kain (Batesville, IN/Batesville) recording a double.

The Lions did the scoring early and often in the second game to gain the split, bolting out to leads of 5-2 and 8-2 by the third inning. Mallory Wright (Germantown, OH/Valley View) had two big hits in the first three innings, driving in three runners with a bases loaded double in the second inning, and adding a two-run single in the third. Kain had a two-run single in the Mount's three-run sixth inning, and the Lions added two more runs in the seventh inning. The Mount had 14 hits in the second game, Morgan Hoehn (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) and Wright led the offense with three hits each, while Wright had five RBI Hoehn added three RBI. Three other players had two hits each, as Paige Kiesewetter (Piqua, OH/Miami East) upped her record to 9-4, tossing a complete game. Sierra Sydnor (Dry Ridge, KY/Grant County) scored three runs.
