Box Score LOCATION: Matlack Field (Richmond, Indiana)
THE BASICS:
Mount St. Joseph dominated on offense and defense throughout the entirety of the match on Saturday. The Lions were able to notch their third conference win and remain unbeaten in the HCAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lions turned in a total team effort on Saturday afternoon. The Mount St. Joseph defense played up to form in the first half, but the Lion attack was also spectacular. April Zeiger opened the scoring in the 35th minute, putting the Lions in front and in control. Less than three minutes later Stefanie Autenrieb joined in with a goal of her own, making the score 2-0, which is where the first half ended.
The Lions would continue to pull away in the second half. Behind smothering defense led by Taylor Murphy and Madeline Rechel Mount St. Joseph was able to eliminate any chance of Earlham scoring opportunities throughout the rest of the game. The Lions held the Quakers to only two shots in the entire game, while getting off thirty of their own. Kaylan Gruber was the final Lion to get in on the scoring action, netting a goal midway through the second half and putting the match out of reach.
STANDOUTS:
The Mount St. Joseph defense played a phenomenal match as a whole against Earlham. The defense did an effective job of keeping the ball on the Quaker half of the field and limiting scoring opportunities for Earlham, holding them to just two shots in 90 minutes.
UP NEXT:
The Lions will be on the road again on Wednesday at Bluffton. The Lions will look to pickup their fourth HCAC win, with kickoff coming at 3:30 PM.
