Box Score Delhi, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph women's soccer team finally found themselves back at home as the final games of the season are vastly approaching. The Lions welcomed the Beavers of Bluffton University to Schueler Field for the Wednesday night match. Before the game the Lions found themselves coming off two wins that have placed the Lions within three points of first place in a crowded HCAC race. Entering the contest, the Lions sat with a 7-5-2 overall record and a 3-1-1 conference record, while the Beavers traveled to Delhi with a 5-9 overall record and a 2-3 conference record.
The Lions hoped to continue their winning ways Wednesday with their first home game in two weeks. The goals wouldn't take long to appear on the scoreboard for the Lions. In the 5th minute of the match Madeline Rechel (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) would cross the ball from inside the 18-yard box to Hannah Schloemer (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) who was able to lose her mark and make a straight run into the center of the box and touch the ball past the Beavers goalkeeper, giving the Lions an early 1-0 lead. Hannah Schloemer would continue to make her mark in the game scoring her second goal of the game in the 19th minute of play. This time, Lauren Boland (Lebanon, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) would get the assist with a ball splitting the Beavers defense to Hannah Schloemer who was able to get a shot off before being knocked over by the Beavers goalkeeper, placing the ball into the lower corner of the net. The Lions would keep their 2-0 lead the rest of the game and ultimately defeat the Beavers and continue their winning steak.
Although the Lions were unable to get any more goals, they were not shy about shooting the ball. In the 90 minutes of play the Lions outshot the Beavers 30-2, recording 15 shots in each half. The Lions continue to get multiple players with shots, with 15 different players getting an opportunity at goal Wednesday. Lions goalkeeper Haylee Woebkenberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/Reading) would only have to make one save against the Beavers which would come late in the second half.
In the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rankings the Lions find themselves in a tie for third place with 13 points. They are only three points shy out of first place. With the final games coming up, every game counts in the fight to get into the HCAC tournament. The Lions enter their next game with a 8-5-2 overall record and a 4-1-1 conference record. They will take of the visiting Yellow Jackets of Defiance College. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1PM at Schueler field.
