Box Score 2 Montgomery, ALA – The Mount St. Joseph University softball team again traveled to Alabama but this time they were in Montgomery. The Mount picked up where they left off in Alabama with back-to-back wins in Day One.
GAME 1 | MSJ 6 – Wartburg College 3
The first game on Saturday morning the Lions faced a solid team in Wartburg College. The Lions pitching Saturday morning started off great allowing only 3 hits in the first game. The Lions also added 8 hits from 6 different players.
Kamryn McCool stole the show Saturday morning only allowing 3 hits in 7 innings pitched. Both Sarah Miller and Ali Lang added 2 hits in the game while Miller drove in a run.
Kamryn McCool continued her dominance this season on the mound with another stellar performance. On top of only allowing 3 hits in 7 innings, McCool recorded 11 strikeouts. Even with the stellar pitching the Lions entered the second inning down 1-0, but that didn't last for long. After an RBI double from
Kaci Finchum, the Lions scored two runs off a throwing error by Wartburg giving the Lions a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 2
nd inning. After the 3
rd Wartburg tied up the game but again, not for long. In the bottom of the 3
rd Sarah Miller singled to left center to give the Lions the lead. With RBIs from both
Gracie Woodyard and
Alehia Tucker the final score read 6-3.
Game 2 | MSJ 5 – Huntingdon College 4
The second game on Saturday the Lions faced off against the Hawks of Huntingdon. Much like the first game, the Lions were dominant on the mound and 5-run 2
nd inning propelled the Lions to victory.
Huntingdon College got out to an early 2-0 in the bottom of the first. The Lions would answer back though in the top of the 2
nd where they scored 5 runs on 4 hits. A trio of hits from
Maiah Hodge,
Sarah Miller and
Gracie Woodyard got the Lions on the board along with some errors from Huntingdon College.
Each team battled on the mound until the bottom of the 6
th when Huntingdon trimmed the Mount's lead to just one with a 2-run single.
Sarah Miller got the win for the Lions pitching a total of 5 innings only giving up 1 hit and two runs. Miller also added 3 strikeouts on the day.
Kamryn McCool entered the game in relief in the bottom of the 6
th. McCool would pitch 1.2 innings allowing only 1 hit and 0 runs along with 2 strikeouts.

The Mount (3-3) returns to action on Sunday as they will again face Wartburg College (3-1) and Huntingdon College (1-7) again in Montgomery, Ala.
