DEFIANCE, Ohio - On Wednesday, March 24th your Mount St. Joseph Lions traveled to Defiance, Ohio to take on the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College. The Lions scattered the net with shots, but had nothing to show for it falling to Defiance 2-0.
The match started with a pair of corners from the Mount and a shot on target from Senior
Thomas Kerrigan (Sidney, Ohio/Lehman Catholic). After a shot from the Yellow Jackets the Lions created more opportunities with 3 corner kicks and two shots. But, Defiance's keeper held strong to keep the score even at zero. In the 17th minute the Yellow Jackets broke the tie with a goal giving them a 1-0 advantage. But for the remainder of the half each team's offenses were held in check thanks to stellar goalkeeping.
To start the second half Defiance nearly found the net in the 49th minute as the ball ricocheted off the crossbar to keep the score at 1-0. The Mount would respond with a pair of shots but could not find the net. It wasn't until the 81st minute that the Yellow Jackets would strike again moving the score to 2-0. The Lions responded with a trio of shots but the Yellow Jackets' keeper was able to complete the clean sheet with the final score showing 2-0.
The Lions finished the game with 12 shots, 9 on target, but were unable to score. Defiance's keeper made a stellar 9 saves on the day.
