CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph Lions softball team hosted the Tigers of Wittenberg for a double header on Saturday. The Lions split the two-game series with the Tigers winning the first game and dropping the second.
GAME 1 | MSJ 3 Witt 1
Game 1 was a defensive duel as both teams combined for a total of 7 hits in the game. The Lions got themselves back into the game in the bottom of the 3
rd inning when senior
Alehia Tucker hit a solo home run to right field tying the game at 1-1. The score remained tied up until the 5
th inning when
Alehia Tucker was able to score on an error, allowing
Brooke Otto to reach first safely. This would end up costing the Tigers as Otto was able to score later in the inning when
Elizabeth Ivers singled to right center. Defensively
Sarah Miller pitched a completed game, going all 7 innings while only allowing 3 hits, 1 run, and striking out 7 batters. This puts her record at 4-2 on the season.
GAME 2 | MSJ 4 Witt 9
Game 2 was a completely different game from both squads as Wittenberg racked up 14 hits while the Lions were able to have 12 of their own. A slow start for the Lions is what ultimately ended up costing them the game. In the first inning, the Wittenberg Tigers were able to see 6 runs come across the plate with a handful of singles and doubles. The 6-run deficit was enough to hold off the Lions as they struggled to bring runs in. Offensively, S. Kardos had herself a good game at the plate going 2-4 with 2 RBIs.
Rachel Gabbard also had a nice outing going 2-4 with a RBI.
UP NEXT: Your Mount St. Joseph Lions head to Depauw University for a double-header this Tuesday. The first game is scheduled for 3:30 and the second game to follow at 5:30.
