ANDERSON, Ind. - On Saturday, April 10th your Mount St. Joseph Lions faced off against the Ravens of Anderson University. The Lions battled with the Ravens all night long but with 27 seconds remaining the Lions grabbed the lead and the game, coming out victorious 12-11!
To start the first half, the Lions went on a run. The Lions managed to score 3 goals in roughly one minute of play.
Megan Dancer (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) scored her 1st of 6 goals Saturday night with 26:57 remaining in the first half. Roughly 30 seconds later
Sarah Murray (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) scored her 1st goal of the contest. Then, roughly 25 seconds later Dancer scored her 2nd goal of the night off a pass from
Josi Jennings (Milford, Ohio/Milford) giving the LIons an early 3-0 lead.
Anderson would then fight back to score 2 goals of their own before Dancer was able to complete her hat trick with 15:17 remaining in the half. But again, Anderson would score 2 more goals, equalizing the game at 4. Dancer would follow with her 4th goal in the half off another pass from
Sarah Murray with 10:08 remaining. But the Lions offense would go dry for the rest of the half while the Ravens went on a 4-0 run giving the Ravens a 8-5 advantage going into the half.
After halftime the Lions got on the board early to start the half with a goal from
Sarah Murray just 26 seconds into the half. The Ravens would then get a goal of their own with 26:14 remaining but the Lions would answer back immediately. With 25:33 remaining
Josi Jennings netted her 4th goal of the season trimming the Ravens lead to 9-7.
For the next 15 minutes of play both offenses were held in check due to stellar defensive play but the Lions came roaring back. with 10:38 remaining the Lions went on a 3-0 run. Dancer would score two goals in 15 seconds for the Lions to even the score at 9. Then, roughly a minute later
Riley Gintert (Morrow, Ohio/Little Miami) would convert a free position shot to give the Lions a 10-9 lead with 9:40 remaining in the contest.
However, the Ravens would quickly respond with 2 goals of their own, taking a 11-10 lead with 8:04 remaining. The Ravens would hold the Lions in check until
Sarah Murray completed her hat trick off a pass from
Josi Jennings to tie the game with 1:03 remaining! After the draw Dancer would control the ball, dish it to
Rachel Winkler (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) who would drive towards the net and draw a foul. Now in a free position shot situation Winkler would pass to Murray who sent the ball Jennings would flipped the ball into the air which found the stick of
Riley Gintert who then shot the ball into the net for the go-ahead score with just 27 seconds remaining! The Lions were able to hold the Ravens for the final 27 seconds of play and leave with a victory!
Megan Dancer stole the show for the Lions scoring half of the Lions 12 goals, giving her a total of 14 goals this season.
Sarah Murray was also a crucial piece to the Lions offense Saturday night totaling 3 goals and 2 assists. Finally,
Riley Gintert was the hero for the Lions Saturday night scoring 2 goals, 1 game winner, and an assist.
