CINCINNATI, Ohio - After one of the most successful regular season's in program history the Mount St. Joseph University softball team is headed to Lexington, Ky. to take part in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. The tournament is set to take place at Transylvania University beginning on May 13, with the championship game scheduled for Saturday May 15.Â
The Lions earned their share of the HCAC Title with a 27-8 record and going 14-2 in the HCAC. The Lions are led by Senior shortstop
Alehia Tucker (Covington, Ky./Holy Cross) who has been absolutely dominant this season. This season Tucker broke the career stolen bases record with 95 stolen bases while also breaking the career doubles record with 44 career doubles. Tucker this season ranked among the best in the conference and ended 2nd in batting average hitting .462. Tucker led the league in slugging % with .838, on base % with .526, runs scored with 40, walks with 15, and stolen bases with 27. Tucker also ranked 3rd in hits with 54, 6th in RBIs with 29, 2nd in doubles with 17, tied for first with 3 triples, and 2nd in home runs with 7.Â
Leading the Lions in the circle was a pair of MSJ pitchers,
Sarah Miller (Fishers, Ind./St. Theodore Guerin) and
Kamryn McCool (Brookville, Ind./Franklin Co.) Both were dominant on the mound this season and McCool set the single season strikeout record here at The Mount with 154 strikeouts this season. McCool also led the league in ERA with 1.17 and opposing batting average with .175. Miller also ranked among the best along side of McCool ranking 3rd in opposing batting average with .233 and both finished with 12 wins ranking 2nd in the HCAC.Â
The Lions are seeking their first HCAC tournament championship since 2002. The Lions enter this weekend riding a 14-game win streak outscoring their opponents 121-17.
