WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph Women's Basketball would travel to Wilmington College to begin their 2022-2023 basketball season. The Quakers would take a 17 point lead into the half, the Lions would go on to win the second half but their comeback would fall just short as the Quakers defeated the Lions 75-65.
The Lions and Quakers would go back and forth in the first quarter of the season. The Lions depth was shown early as six different Lions would find the scoreboard in the first but find themselves trailing 18-21. In quarter number two, the Lions would be slow out of the gates. Wilmington would go on to shoot 48% from the field and build their lead to 17 at the half. In the second half, the Lions would go on a 7-0 run to cut the Quakers lead to 10 after a pair of free throws from
Chloe Jansen, a fastbreak layup from Madison Drummonds and a three point jump shot from Freshman Karlee Mills. Wilmington would find their footing and increase their lead back to 19 by the end of the third period. The Lions would break out full court pressure looking to climb back into the game in the final period. After three straight three point jump shots, the Lions cut the lead down to 12. Drummonds would then add another fastbreak basket and cut the lead to 9. That would be the closest the Lions would come as they would fall to the Quakers by 10.
The Mount would win the second half by the score of 39-32 while shooting 45% from the floor while also turning up the defense and holding Wilmington to 8% from the floor in the final quarter.
Madison Drummonds and Karlee Mills would lead the way for the Lions in their debuts, Drummonds would have a 26 point, 10 rebound double-double performance. Mills would add 15 points of her own while shooting 3-5 from behind the arc.

The Lions will return home to host the Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic, the women's teams will play Friday and Saturday and the Men's basketball teams will play Saturday night and Sunday. The teams included in the women's field are The Mount, Case Western, Heidelberg, and Westminster. The Lions will take on Case Western 5:00pm on Friday while concluding their weekend on Saturday at 3:00pm vs Heidelberg.
