Jansen Scores 28, But the Lions fall short against Bluffton

CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Tuesday, February 1st your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed the Beavers of Bluffton University to the Harrington Center for a HCAC matchup. The Lions were led by Junior guard Chloe Jansen (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) who scored 28 points while adding 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. But, the Lions fell short in the contest 65-56, despite a late comeback. 

The Lions struggled offensively early as the Beavers went on an 8-0 run to begin play. But, the Lions would respond with a pair of three-point buckets from Haley Scott (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and Ella Breitfelder (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) to trim the Bluffton lead to just 4. After the first quarter of play the Lions trailed Bluffton 12-6. 

In the second quarter of play Chloe Jansen controlled the Lions offense scoring 11 of the Lions 14 points. Ellie Oldendick (Gallatin, Ky./Gallatin) provided the other three but the Lions trailed 31-20 heading into halftime. 

To start the second half of play the Lions heated up offensively. Haley Scott got the scoring started with a three-point bucket followed by a three-point play from Chloe Jansen to bring the Lions within 8. With 7:13 remaining in the quarter the Lions began to find their stride going on a 10-3 run to cut the Beavers lead to 6 points. But, after the third quarter of play the Beavers still held a 46-38 advantage. 

To begin the fourth quarter of play the Lions attacked quickly. Shelby Turner (Pendleton, Ky./Pendleton) scored the Lions first five points of the quarter bringing the Lions within 5 points with 8:10 remaining. However, the Beavers would respond nicely and defeat the Lions by a final score of 65-56. 

The Lions were led offensively by Chloe Jansen who scored 28 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Ellie Oldendick was effective from the floor scoring 9 points while shooting 3-4 from beyond the arc. Carlee Daulton (Ripley, Ohio/Ripley Union Lewis Huntington) was assertive on the glass grabbing 11 rebounds paired with 3 points.
