St. Louis, MO.—The Mount St. Joseph University Men's Volleyball program concluded their weekend trip at MVCL powerhouse, Fontbonne. This match saw the first ranked Griffens play the fourth ranked Lions. Entering this match the Mount carried a (6-5) overall record, Fontbonme held a (9-2) record. Despite the teams best efforts, they would fall short in straight sets (25-20, 25-19, 25-18).
Set One: Fontbonne 25, MSJ 20
The first set of the afternoon saw the Lions fall short. Both teams were neck and neck throughout the set, before the Griffens would assemble a 5-0 run that would allow them to claim the set.
Set Two: Fontbonne 25, MSJ 19
In the second set of the match, the Lions would fall short again. This time carrying a 16-15 lead, before their opponents would take control of the set.
Set Three: Fontbonne 25, MSJ 18
In the final set of the day, the Griffens jumped out to an early 11-4 lead. While the Lions were able to fight their way back to keep things close, they would ultimately fall short.
Notables:
The Lions had several players turn in great performances. Senior Jason Hascher continued his impressive season with 13 kills. Rey Sanchez would lead the team with 16 assists and 6 digs, while adding 4 kills.
With this road-trip behind the program, they will now turn their focus to the Purple Raiders of Mount Union. This match is scheduled for Friday, March 4 at the Harrington Center.
