Cincinnati, Ohio— On Saturday March 19
th, The Mount St. Joseph University Men's Volleyball program would honor their seniors on senior day as they hosted a MVCL Match against the Comets of Olivet College. Entering the matchup, the Lions would enter with a (8-8) overall record, while the Comets held a (4-10) record. In this match the Lions would dominate for the second straight night, winning in straight sets.
Set One: MSJ 25 OC 13
Out of the gates of set one, the score would continue to run back and forth. As the set was knotted 8-8, the Lions would find themselves on an 8-1 run to move the lead to 16-9 in favor of the Mount. During the run, Senior
Rey Sanchez (Arvada, Colo. / Ralston Valley) would have 3 kills along with 2 service aces to spark the run. Later in the set, the Lions would once again go on a 7-1 run which would close out the first set with the final score 25-13.
Set Two: MSJ 25 OC 17
To start the second set the Mount would continue to carry the momentum from the first set. The Mount would take advantage of a couple of errors from the comets to take an early 6-2 lead. For the remainder of the set, no team would be able to put a run of more than 2 points at a time. As the Mount pulled ahead to a 23-16 lead, Freshman
Ben Carmosino (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier) would find Senior
Jason Hascher (Miamisburg, Ohio / Alter) for the kill to put the Mount within game point. The following serve would not be returned by the comets as the Mount would take the second set by the score of 25-17.
Set Three: MSJ 25 OC 13
To start the third set of play, once again the teams would go back and forth to start a set. Senior Elijah Scott would get the momentum going for the Lions as he would come up with back-to-back service aces which would propel the Mount to a 4-0 run to increase their lead to 6-2. As the Mount found themselves ahead 13-8 in the set, they would go on another momentum changing 7-0 run as they took advantage of several Olivet attacking errors to take a commanding 20-8 lead. Josh Kabel (Centerville, Ohio / Alter) to serve, He would find the back right corner of court for the ace as the Lions would win the third set 25-13 and complete the second win in straight sets in as many days.
Notable Performances:
Jason Hascher led the way for the Lions with 9 kills. Elijah Scott would add 7 kills while hitting .500 and producing 2 services aces.
Rey Sanchez would also dominate with 2 services aces and 2 solo blocks.
