Anderson, Ind.—The Mount St. Joseph University Baseball program, made the trip to Anderson University for a HCAC double header. Entering this game, the Lions carried a (9-14) overall record, while Anderson Ravens carried a (12-10) record. In the hard fought battle by the Lions, they were unable to come away with a win this afternoon.
Game One: AU 13 MSJ 9
Game one began with the Ravens scoring one run in the bottom of the first, followed by a scoreless second. In the top of the third, the Lions jumped ahead, plating six runs. Jake Lawson started the inning by doubling into deep right field, Joshua Hagans drew a walk and a Tyrell Anderson single tied the game at 1-1. Andrew Harrison was hit by a pitch to load the bases, for first basemen, Max Kline, Kline singled into right field to score two runs. Caleb Partin came to the plate with the bases loaded and also drove in a two RBI single and Matt Brankamp scored on a wild pitch to push the Mount ahead 6-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Ravens pushed two runs across, before the Lions added their seventh run of the afternoon in the top of the fifth. This run was manufactured from the bat of Zack McKenna, doubling into left field to score Partin from second base. In the top of the sixth Hagans hit a solo home run to give the Lions a commanding 8-3 lead. However Anderson's bats finally returned to life, plating three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Headed to the top of the seventh the Lions holding onto an 8-6 lead. McKenna drove a two out triple into center field and Jake Lawson would tap a single down the third base line to drive in the run. This would serve as the final run of the game for the Mount, as the Ravens rallied for seven runs in the final innings of the game.
Despite the tough game one loss, several players posted great stat lines. Lawson led the Lions with four hits in five at-bats, driving in one run and drawing a walk. Hagans went two for four, including his solo home run. McKenna recorded two extra base hits in the game, while driving in one run. The pair of Kline and Partin each drove in two RBI's.
Game Two: AU 11 MSJ 0
In the final game of the afternoon, Anderson posted one run in the bottom of the first, two in the second and one more in the bottom of the third. This scoreless theme continued and the Ravens added eight total runs in the final three innings of the game.
The second game of the double header saw the Lions fall short by a final score of 11-0. In this game McKenna finished with two hits, while Austin Price, Pedro Munoz, Carter Owens and Hagans each recorded a hit.
The Lions now turn their attention to Rose-Hulman for an upcoming double-header. These game will see the Lions return to Florence Y'alls stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 2 PM and game two starting shortly after.
