Springfield, Ohio—With the season riding in the balance, the Mount St. Joseph University Men's Volleyball traveled to Wittenberg University. This game would determine whether the Lions would earn the third seed in the MCVL. The Lions would come away with the win, needing four sets to do so. Following the completion of their win over Wittenberg the Lions would play St. John Fishers in a rematch from earlier this season. The rematch would see the Lions fall in straight set.
Game One: MSJ 3 WU 1 (25-23, 25-16, 19-25, 25-14)
The opening set of the match, saw the Lions win 25-23. Tied at 23 all, Jason Hascher would quickly end the set with two our of the last three kills, giving the Mount the set one victory.
The Mount would dominate in the second, with a Rey Sanchez block pushing them ahead 25-16. Now leading 2-0 and only needing a single set to clinch the third sport in MCVL tournament, the Mount would be faced with the best efforts of the Tigers. Wittenberg would come away with a set three victory 25-19.
The final set that the Lions needed was the fourth set, winning by an absurd 25-14 mark. In winning in impressive fashion, the Lions would build a nine point run, to cruise ahead 18-9.
Notables:
Jason Hacher finished his final regular season match with 20 kills and 9 digs. Rey Sanchez turned in one of his best games of the season, with 11 kills on a .304 hitting percentage and 6 digs. The pair of Hayden Wood and Ryan Bollhauer were efficient with their swings. Wood would tally 8 kills on a .333 hitting percentage. Bollhauer hit .583 on his way to 7 kills.
Game Two: MSJ 0 SJF 3
In the second match of the afternoon the Lions would fall in straight sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-17). Despite the tough loss Wood led the Lions with 11 digs and 3 kills. Sanchez would turn in seven kills and seven digs.
With the regular season now in the rear view mirror, the Mount will begin preparing for their upcoming MCVL tournament. In the opening round the Lions are slated to play the two seed, Mount Union. For schedule updates and coverage of this upcoming event, continue to follow msjlions.com
