Springfield, Ohio—Following an exciting HCAC double header on Tuesday, the Mount St. Joseph University Baseball program returned to the road on April 7. This out of conference road game would see the (9-13) Lions play a (13-5) Wittenberg team. With all being told, the Lions would come up short, in 7 innings, by a final of 12-2
The Tigers would earn their first scores of the game in the bottom of the first, plating four total runs. In the visitors half of the third, the Lions cut their deficit in half. Anton Mere would leadoff the inning and single through the middle of the infield. Mere found himself in scoring position following a wild pitch. Austin Price, then drew a walk. A sacrifice fly by Joshua Hagans pushed Mere across the plate, and Tyrell Anderson took a ball back up the middle for an RBI single.
Wittenberg would respond with a run in the bottom of the third to bring the score to 5-2. After a lul in the scoring action, the Tigers added three in the bottom of the sixth and four in the bottom of the seventh. This would end the game with the Lions on the short-end of a 12-2 final.
Lions Centerfielder, Mere finished the game with two hits in three at-bats, scoring one run. Anderson would start at First base, instead of his everyday role as the designated hitter, collecting one hit and one RBI. Hagans also registered an RBI from a sacrifice fly.
The Mount will now prepare for an upcoming Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference double header with the Ravens of Anderson University. The Ravens currently sit third in the conference as the Lions will look to climb the standings. Game one is scheduled for Noon and game two will begin at 3 PM.
