CRESTVIEW HILLS, Kentucky - The Mount St. Joseph University women's volleyball team headed accross the Ohio River to take on the Saints of Thomas More on Tuesday night. In a match that was extremely tightly contested the Lions came out on top in the five set affair.
The Lions got off to a quick start taking the first set of the match 25-20. In that set neither team had a run of more than three points in a row, but the Lions never trailed in the set.Â
They would go on to drop sets two and three by identical 25-23 scores. Then bounced back to take the fourth set 25-22 to set up the winner-take-all fifth and final set. With the fifth set tied at four, the Lions got a side-out and sent senior
Brooke Aselage to the service line. Aselage would go on a mini-run of four points that put the Lions ahead for good.Â
In the match
Emily Abshire led the way with a match-high 19 kills and .277 hitting percentage.
Morgan Whitaker (13) and
Grace Young (11) also registered double-digit kills in the match, Young hitting .391. Aselage and
Addie Conley each added 8 kills, with Conley hitting an oustanding .500 in the match. Defensively
Erin Androne was fantastic registering a match-high 32 digs, Aselage added 21 of her own. The setters Sam Buscher (33) and
Chloe Burton (19) combined for 52 assists in the match with only four errors between them.

The Lions will open HCAC play this weekend as they welcome the Quaker of Earlham College to Cincinnati and the Harrington Center. The match is scheduled to get underway at 1:00 PM.
