RICHMOND, Ind. - On Wednesday, October 12th your #15 Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Richmond, Ind. to take on the Quakers of Earlham College for their 3rd Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup of the season. The Lions looked dominant again picking up their 3rd HCAC win of the season while picking up their 4th straight win leaving them with a 15-1 record.
In the 1st set, the Lions got off to a good start. A pair of kills from
Grace Young helped the Lions jump out to a 5-2 lead but Earlham would fire back tying the score at 6. The Lions would then go on a 9-3 run with a pair of kills from
Mallory Witsken and a kill from
McKenzee Wagener taking a 15-9 lead. Each squad would then attack in threes as the teams would trade rallies as the Lions took a 21-15 lead. In the final moments of the 1st set,
Emily Pfeifer registered a kill to propel the Lions to a 25-19 set one victory.
In set two, Earlham got off to a hot start. After The Mount took a 6-4 lead, the Quakers scored 5 straight points taking a 9-6 advantage. But, the Lions would answer with 5 straight themselves including a pair of service aces from
Hannah Graves. After the game was tied at 13 the Lions would rally again. 4 straight points from the Lions, 3 of which of kills from
Emma Sicking gave the Lions a 17-13 advantage. Earlham would get a pair back before the Lions would explode again. 6 straight points for the Lions gave them a 23-15 advantage and closed out set two with a kill from
Hannah Graves marking a set two win, 25-18.
In the final set, The Mount would dominate early. The Lions jumped out to a 12-5 lead with 3 kills from Sicking along with kills from Graves and Wagener. Earlham would crawl back a couple points before the Lions would pile on again. A kill from
Ruthie Bingham and a service ace from
Grace Wilking grew the Lions lead to 18-8. Earlham would then provide some resistance but kills from
Grace Young, Wagener and Sicking would close out the set. The Lions were victorious again, sweeping the Quakers with a 25-17 set three victory.
Grace Young led the attack for the Lions. Young tallied 10 kills while hitting .261.
Emma Sicking was also dominant registering 8 kills while hitting .500.
McKenzee Wagener was impressive as well tallying 6 kills while hitting .417. Wagener also added 4 solo blocks and 3 block assists.
UP NEXT: Your Mount St. Joseph Lions are back in action on Friday, October 13th when the Lions travel to Springfield, Ohio to take on the Tigers of Wittenberg. The game is scheduled to begin at 5pm.
