DEFIANCE, Ohio – On Thursday, December 28th your Mount St. Joseph University women's basketball team traveled to Defiance College to take on the Yellow Jackets in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Lions were absolutely dominant setting a new single-game school record in an 88-27 victory. The Lions pulled down a record 63 rebounds, the most in a game since the 2002-03 season when the Lions grabbed 61 rebounds versus Cazenovia.
The Lions defense shined to begin play. The Lions allowed just three points in the first quarter, limiting the Yellow Jackets to just one basket on ten attempts. The Lions offense capitalized off their stellar defense jumping out to an early double-digit lead. Freshman
Hailey Guingrich fueled the attack with six points to end the quarter. After ten minutes of play, the Lions held a 17-3 lead.
To begin the second quarter the Yellow Jackets saw some life from their offense. Defiance would knock down a pair of shots to pull within 11 with 8:09 remaining in the half. The Lions would answer with another surge offensively.
Anyiah Murphy led the way for the Lions scoring five points on a 22-3 run to end the half. Guingrich put together another impressive quarter scoring four points and grabbing five rebounds as the Lions held a 41-11 lead at the break.
In the third quarter the Lions continued to control the pace of the game.
Karlee Mills got things started for the Lions sinking a pair of jumpers. Defiance would answer with jumper but still trailed the Lions 50-15 with 6:30 left in the third quarter.
Morgan Jenkins extended the advantage scoring four points on a 9-0 run. The Lions continued to build their lead to close out the quarter ahead 61-18.
In the fourth quarter the Lions offense continued to improve. The Lions began the final quarter on a 17-0 run.
Madison Drummonds led the way on the run scoring six points and grabbing three rebounds. Following the run, Defiance would get a few buckets to fall but the Lions continued to answer. As the final whistle blew, the Lions were victorious by a 61-point margin taking down the Yellow Jackets of Defiance 88-27.
Guingrich had an impressive game scoring a career-high 16 points but fell just short of a double-double with 8 rebounds. However, Drummonds and
Chloe Jansen would each earn double-doubles in the victory. Drummonds posted 13 points and 14 rebounds while Jansen posted 11 points and 13 rebounds. Jenkins also shined in the Lions historic victory with 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists.

rd the Lions will travel to Bluffton, Ohio to take on the Beavers of Bluffton University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
