INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - On Saturday, December 2nd your Mount St. Joseph University track and field team traveled to the University of Indianapolis to compete at the Scott Fangman Invite. The Lions got their season started on Saturday with 16 individual placers in the top 8. Within that 16, 1 earned Runner-Up and 2 earned 3rd Place finishes.
First, on the women's squad
Grace Kruthaupt got her season started nicely. Kruthaupt put together two personal best performances on Saturday competing in the Long Jump and High Jump. Her best finish on the day was in High Jump taking 8th Place with a mark of 1.40M. Kruthaupt also placed 11th in Long Jump with a mark of 4.23M.
The Lions continued to be impressive in the field events following Kruthaupt's success. Freshman
Asia Branch got her college career started nicely with a 9th Place finish in the Weight Throw. Branch began her career with a mark of 11.21M. Staying with the Weight Throw event, Sophomore
Jill Wilhelm got her campaign started well with a 5th Place finish. Wilhelm finished with a mark of 12.72M.
In the Shot Put event, history was made. Sophomore
Madalyn Hudnall started her season in the best way possible, a new school record. Hudnall grabbed 5th Place with a new school record throw of 11.67M.
Krystal Davison also posted a top 8 finish for the Lions over the weekend. Davison finished 6th in the Women's 1 Mile Run. Davison clocked a time of 7:40.01.
Now, on the men's side Junior
Henry Wright started his season off in the right way. Wright placed 9th in the Shot Put event with a mark of 12.04M. Wright also placed 8th in the Weight Throw with a mark of 13.32M.
Staying with the field events, the Lions were able to make history once again. This time, it was Sophomore
Riley Smith earning a new school record. Smith earned a 8th Place finish in the Men's Pole Vault while setting the new MSJ Men's Indoor Pole Vault record at 3.71M.
In the long distance events, the Lions showed out. Senior
Jacob Miller set the bar in the 1 Mile Run taking 4th Place with a time of 5:01.56. In the 3000M Run the Lions earned 2 top 4 finishers.
Alex Schmidt and
Alex Taft both posted great times earning 4th and 3rd Place respectively. The Alex pairing finished with times of 10:24.77 and 9:58.66.
In the sprint and hurdle events The Mount was well represented. The Lions earned a pair of top 8 placers in the 200M Dash, 60M Dash and 60M Hurdles. In the 200M Dash
Jalen Range and
Diego Yun took home the top 8 finishes. Range finished 8th with a time of 23.57s while Yun finished 5th with a time of 23.39s. In the 60M Dash Range and Yun again took home the top 8 finishes. Range finished 5th with a time of 7.14s while Yun finished 6th with a time of 7.17s. In the 60M Hurdles, Yun placed for his 3rd time joining
Saien Wright in the top 8. Yun took 6th with a time of 8.71s and Saien took home the Lions lone Runner-Up of the weekend. Saien was impressive earning 2nd in the 60M Hurdles with a time of 8.48s.
UP NEXT: Your Mount St. Joseph track and field team will get some rest from competition and will be back in action on Saturday, January 20th. when the Lions host the Mount St. Joseph Invitational. The Invitational is scheduled to begin at 11AM.
