CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Friday, February 24th your Mount St. Joseph University men's volleyball team welcomed the Thorobreds of Kentucky State to the Harrington Center. The Lions were dominant in the matchup hitting .391 as a team with 34 total kills. The Mount cruised to victory winning in straight sets, 25-12, 25-7 and 25-12.
In the first set the Lions got working quickly. The Mount began the set on a 10-1 run with 3 kills from
Ryan Bollhauer and a pair of service aces. Kentucky State would fire back bringing thw score to 14-7. The Lions again went on the attack with a pair of kills from
Kyle Rees followed by a kill from
Jude Lewis and Bollhauer to bring the score to 21-9. The Lions continued to dominate the point of attack closing out the set 25-12.
In the second set the Lions capitalized on Kentucky State's mistakes taking a 12-3 lead. But, that wasn't the largest lead the Lions would hold as they went on a massive 9-0 run. Bollhauer would lead the way with 3 kills followed by a pair of kills from Rees giving the Lions a 24-6 advantage. The Lions would surrender 1 point before closing out the set with another kill from Bollhauer 25-7.
In the third and final set the Lions got off to another quick start. The Mount claimed the first 7 points with a pair of kills from
Denzell Brown. The Lions would go back and forth with the Thorobreds before going on another impressive run. Another pair of kills from Brown boosted the Lions advantage to 20-5. The Thorobreds would fight back going on a run of their own to bring the score to 23-12. But, 1 final kill from
Ryan Bollhauer gave the Lions a dominant 3 set win, 25-12.
Ryan Bollhauer led the way for the Lions finishing with 11 kills while hitting an insane .714.
Kyle Rees was also impressive for the Lions finishing with 9 kills while hitting .571.
Denzell Brown dominated on the court as well for the Lions finishing with 6 kills while hitting .600.
Logan Essen led the way defensively for the Lions totaling 7 digs. Finally,
Ben Carmosino impressed from the setter position earning 28 assists while tallying a pair of kills while hitting .500.
