CINCINNATI, Ohio – On Saturday, January 27
th your Mount St. Joseph University women's basketball team welcomed the Ravens of Anderson to the Harrington Center for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Lions were impressive from the start holding a seven-point lead heading into halftime. Following the break, The Mount continued to build their advantage ultimately taking down the Ravens 80-62.
To begin play, the Lions were efficient from the floor.
Karlee Mills and
Morgan Jenkins took control to start leading the Lions on a 12-5 run. Anderson answered with a pair of buckets but the Lions continued to knock down shots. A jumper from
Chloe Jansen closed out the quarter as the Lions held a 22-14 lead.
In the second quarter, the Ravens responded cutting the Lions lead to just four. But, a pair of jumpers from Jansen and a three-pointer from Jenkins put the Lions back in front by nine with 5:28 remaining in the half. Anderson would get a pair of buckets to fall to close out the first half with the Lions ahead 39-32.
To start the third, the Ravens again cut into the Lions advantage. This time the Ravens cut their deficit to three with just under three minutes remaining in the quarter. But, the Lions ended the quarter on a dominant 7-0 run. A three-pointer from Mills got the scoring started followed by buckets from Jansen and
Madison Drummonds to give the Lions a 55-45 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of basketball.
In the fourth, each team was efficient from the field to start. Three-pointers from Jansen and
Ellie Oldendick fueled the Lions offense, taking a 13-point lead just one minute into the quarter. The Ravens were able to pull within 10 with 6 minutes remaining but the Lions would respond with another dominant offensive run. The Lions answered with an 11-3 run to take a 76-58 lead with 3:25 left to play. The Ravens would answer but not enough to cut the deficit to single-digits as the Lions took down the Ravens 80-62.
Jansen led the way for the Lions posting a double-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Jenkins had another impressive outing finishing with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. Mills did damage from beyond the arc finishing 3-7 from deep with 16 points and 4 rebounds.
