CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph University women's volleyball team welcomed DePauw to the Harrington Center for a non-conference tune-up, prior to opening HCAC play on Saturday. Playing in front of their home crowd for just the second time this season, the Lions dominated the Tigers for a straight sets victory.
In the first set the Tigers jumped out to a quick lead, winning 7 of the first 9 points to take a 7-2 lead. Trailing 7-2 the Lions got a sideout on a kill by
Aubrey Miranda, and
Lyndsey Stephenson went on a four-point service run to draw them even at 7-7. DePauw scored the next point, and the Lions then went on another five-point run to take control of the first set. The Tigers drew within one at 14-15, but the Lions would not relent. They quickly pushed the lead back out to four, and eventually won set one 25-20.
In set two the Mount took control early, winning six of the first eight points to take a 6-2 lead. They would maintain a sizeable advantage for much of the set, and looked like they would secure the easy set win. Leading 24-18, DePauw got a sideout and won five straight points, to draw within one at 24-23. A huge set winning kill by
Emma Sicking put set two away and gave the Lions the 25-23 win.Â
The third set was tightly contested at the outset, over the first 17 points there were 7 lead changes and 7 ties. The Lions took the lead at 9-8 and never trailed again, the stretched the lead out a bit and eventually took set three 25-21.Â
The Mount was led offensively by a pair with double-digit kills, Sicking (13) and
Hannah Graves (12), Graves also put up an outstanding .391 hitting percentage. Defensively
Grace Wilking led the way with 9 digs, Graves and
Jasmine Butler each had 8 and Stephenson added 7. Butler also dished out 36 assists in the match.Â

The Lions will open HCAC play with a big matchup on Saturday with the Earlham Quakers. The match will get underway at 1:00 PM in the Harrington Center.Â
