Anderson, Indiana – On Saturday, February 4
th, the Mount St. Joseph University Track & Field team traveled to Anderson, Indiana to compete in the Anderson University Invitational. The Lions ended with 28 individual performances finishing in the top 8. Of those 28 performances, 12 of them were in the top 3.
Starting with the men,
Diego Yun got the meet started with a 2
nd place finish in the 60-meter dash and a personal best of 7.14 seconds. Shortly after,
Mikhail Walker had 2 personal best performances in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter run with a 7.23 and a 23.60. Walker also placed 6
th in the 60-meter dash and 4
th in the 200.
Jacob Miller continued to set the tone for the Lions finishing in 7
th place in the 400-meter run with a sub minute time of 55.63 seconds.
Moving along to mid-distance and distance races,
Alex Taft secured a 6
th place spot in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:32.97.
Jacob Miller also continued to impress racking up his second and third top 8 finishes in the 1000- and 3000-meter runs. Miller secured 6
th place in both races, with a 2:49.41 in the 1000 and a 10:37.40 in the 3000. Last but not least,
Alex Schmidt ran a whopping 5000 meters and got 8
th place with a time of 17:53.84.
Looking at our field events,
DeAndre Cowen placed in both the high jump and long jump with a 1.80 M mark and a 5.75 M personal best performance in the long jump. Cowen finished with a tie for 3
rd place in the high jump and 5
th in long jump. In terms of the throwing events,
Decklan Brophy finished in 6
th place in shot put and the weigh throw events. Brophy got a mark of 12.37 M in shot put and a personal best distance of 12.47 M in the weight throw. Wrapping things up for the men,
Jack Tucker secured a top 3 finish in the weight throw with a personal best throw of 15.96 M getting him 3
rd place.
Moving over to the women's side of the meet, the ladies finished in 2
nd place overall out of 8 teams.
In the 60-meter dash, the Lions racked up 3 top 8 finishes.
Sydney Bell got 4
th place in the 60-meter dash with a personal best run of 8.46 seconds. Following close behind,
Grace Kruthaupt finished in 5
th place with a time of 8.62 seconds, and
Bella Calhoun finished in 7
th with a personal best time of 8.87 seconds.
Next up, your MSJ Lions finished with a clean sweep in the 200-meter dash securing the top 4 positions.
Grace Kruthaupt finished in 1
st place with a time of 28.66 seconds, followed by
Olivia Forte and
Sydney Bell both with personal best runs of 28.97 and 29.31 seconds. And coming in 4
th,
Bella Calhoun ran an impressive 29.75 seconds.
Moving over to longer races,
Julia Gooding secured the only individual 1
st place finish for the Lions in the 1000-meter run with a personal best performance of 3:16.42. Along with this,
Kayla Hess also represented the distance squad well finishing in 3
rd place in the mile with a personal best time of 5:50.25.
In our women's field events,
Londyn Frazier placed 5
th in long jump with a personal best and 3
rd in the triple jump. Frazier's best mark in long jump was 4.36 M and 8.94 M in the triple jump. Wrapping things up for the Lions,
Madalyn Hudnall and
Asia Branch both placed in both the shot put and weight throw events.
Madalyn Hudnall secured 2
nd place in shot put and 5
th in the weight throw with distances of 11.04 M and 11.52 M. And lastly,
Asia Branch finished in 3
rd in both events with an impressive 12.54 M personal best in the weight throw and 10.52 M in shot put.
UP NEXT: This coming weekend, your Mount St. Joseph University Lions will be back in action at Otterbein University. The Lions will be competing in the All-Ohio Championships in Westerville, Ohio on Saturday, February 10
th. The meet will get started at 12 pm.
