CINCINNATI, Ohio – On Wednesday, February 7
th your Mount St. Joseph University women's basketball team welcomed the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College to the Harrington Center for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Lions started slow but still held a nine-point lead heading into halftime. Following halftime, the Lions again started slow but erupted in the fourth quarter of play. The Mount scored 28 points just in the fourth to take down Defiance 75-55.  
To begin play, each squad traded baskets until the Lions were able to create some separation. 
Jordan Patterson gave the Lions some breathing room with a huge three-point basket giving the Lions a five-point advantage with 4:26 remaining in the first. The Yellow Jackets would answer pulling within three but a pair of buckets from 
Whitney Warfel gave the Lions back their advantage. After the first quarter of play, the Lions held a 15-8 lead.    
After the quarter break, the Lions would build on their advantage with a pair of buckets from 
Karlee Mills and 
Ella Stivers. The pairing gave the Lions a double-digit lead but Defiance would quickly answer. The Yellow Jackets quickly pulled within striking distance trailing by just two with 6:53 remaining in the half. The Lions would respond right back with a pair of layups from 
Madison Drummonds grabbing a six-point advantage. Each squad would trade points until the final seconds of the half when The Mount's 
Amanda Lovejoy would drain a three-pointer as time expires. This bucket gave the Lions a 34-25 lead after 20 minutes of play.
After halftime, the Lions extended their lead to double-digits. A jumper from 
Morgan Jenkins gave the Lions an 11-point lead with 8:39 left in the third. But, Defiance would erase their deficit pulling within one with 4:41 left. To end the quarter, the Lions were able to give themselves a small cushion holding a 47-43 lead with ten minutes of basketball remaining.  
In the fourth, the Lions looked like a new team. After Defiance would get their first shot to fall, The Lions would go on a 15-2 run. Drummonds and Mills led the charge combining for 11 points as the Lions took a 62-47 lead with 3:33 left to play. Defiance answered with a pair of buckets but another dominant run for the Lions iced the game. The Lions ended play on a 13-5 run knocking off Defiance by a final score of 75-55.  
Drummonds continued her dominant stretch finishing with a team-high 21 points and 11 rebounds. Warfel had a solid day off the bench for the Lions scoring 12 points and 3 rebounds while staying perfect from the free-throw line. 
Hailey Guingrich was a force defensively registering a team-high 4 blocks while adding 8 points and 8 rebounds.
