HIRAM, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph football team hit the road for some friday night football. They headed north to take on the Hiram Terriers, looking to notch their first win of the season. They would do so behind an outstanding effort on the defensive side of the ball.
The Lions defense after surrendering 42 to Muskingum in the opener, bounced back in a big way. They held the Terriers to 174 yards of total offense, and 10 total first downs. While also forcing them into three interceptions,
Miles Harding and
Luke Fortkamp each picked off the first pass of their career and
Jonah Smith also had an INT. The Mount continually played in the Hiram backfield registering eight tackles for loss in the game.
Jack Tucker led the way from his defensive tackle position with eight total tackles and a tackle for loss.
Brady Pierce and
Logan Julian each had six tackles in the game.
The Lions played a pair of quarterbacks in the game,
Tyler Prather got the start and threw a touchdown. A 23-yard laser beam to
Eli Aston late in the first half to give the Lions a 14-0 lead at the break.Early in the second half he would be relieved by
Jaxon Schreiber, who on his first throw found
Kadin Pollard for a 40-yard score. On the next drive he eluded pressure, rolled to his left and lofted another touchdown to Pollard this one from 21-yards out.
Jackson Gifford and
Devin Holt did much of the heavy lifting for the Lions on the ground. Gifford led the way with 13 carries for for 63 yards and a score, while Holt carried it 10 times for 45 yards and a touchdown.

The Lions will welcome Albion to Cincinnati as a part of the MIAA-HCAC crossover event next weekend. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM kickoff from Schueler Field.
