Cincinnati, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph women's basketball team battled the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers in a thrilling HCAC matchup on Wednesday, January 8. After a hard-fought contest and an intense overtime period, the Lions secured an 80-71 victory, improving their conference record to 4-2.
The Lions showcased their resilience and determination, controlling the first, fourth, and overtime quarters. Rose-Hulman's Emma Schipp led her team with 14 points, followed closely by Sophia Reese with 12. However, the Lions' defensive intensity and dominance on the boards proved to be the difference, as they outperformed Rose-Hulman in both offensive and defensive rebounding.
Senior Madison Drummonds led the charge for The Mount, finishing with a game-high 18 points. Guard Morgan Jenkins played a pivotal role, adding 17 points, while forward Hailey Guingrich contributed 16 points from the paint.
The Lions controlled the game for 37 minutes but lost the lead late in the fourth quarter. With the pressure on, Drummonds delivered clutch free throws to force overtime, where the Lions regained control and pulled away for the win.
