HANOVER, Indiana – The Mount St. Joseph University men's basketball team was defeated by Albion College, 74–61, in the Hanover Classic at Hanover College on Saturday afternoon.
Albion came out hot, jumping out to an early 10–2 lead after hitting two three-pointers during the run. Mount St. Joseph settled in midway through the first half, cutting the Britons' lead to 22–20 behind Collin Buck, who scored 10 of the team's first 20 points. Albion closed the half on a 19–9 run to take a 41–29 advantage into halftime.
The Britons started the second half much like the first, extending their lead to as many as 15 points early on. Jason Lavender helped keep the Lions in the game, scoring three layups and converting an and-one to bring Mount St. Joseph within 11 midway through the second half. With 5:48 remaining, Cooper Ollis hit a jumper to cut the Britons' lead to single digits, but Albion responded immediately with a layup and went on to secure a 74–61 victory.
The Lions were led by Collin Buck, who scored 19 points, while Jason Lavender added 13. Mount St. Joseph turned the ball over nine times but forced 10 turnovers on the defensive end. Albion outrebounded the Lions 34–22 and finished with a slight edge in assists, 11–10.
