CINCINNATI, OHIO – The Mount St. Joseph University men's basketball team cruised past Earlham College 88-64 Saturday morning.
Earlham started off with a 5-0 lead, but the Mount answered quickly and took the lead just before the under-16 timeout. Jay Bilton made a layup, giving the Lions an 8-7 lead at the 16:11 mark. They would maintain the lead for the rest of the game. The Mount went on four runs in the first half, including a 10-0 run, a 13-5 run, a 9-0 run, and closed on a 10-4 run, giving them a commanding 47-28 halftime lead. Jason Lavender led the first half with 15 points, and Griffen Derry added nine points, going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
The Lions controlled the second half from start to finish, never allowing the Quakers to threaten their lead. Early in the half, the Mount went on an 11-2 run, extending their lead to 24 points. The Lions never let their lead dip below 14, ultimately winning 88-64. Michael Loftis scored six points, and Griffen Derry also added six, going 2-for-2 from three in the second half.
The Mount was led by Jason Lavender, who finished with 19 points and seven rebounds. Cooper Ollis added 13 points and six rebounds, Joe Brand had 12 points and five rebounds, and Griffen Derry scored 15 points, shooting perfectly from the floor and going 5-for-5 from three-point range.
