Track and Field Competes at Anderson Invitational

ANDERSON, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph track and field teams headed to take part in the Anderson University Indoor Track Invitational. The women's team finished fourth in the event while the men finished sixth. 

WOMEN'S RESULTS

In the women's 60m dash, sophomore Olivia Forte earned a spot in the finals and finished fifth with a time of 8.60 her best mark of the season. The performance got the Lions four points toward their team total. 

Forte would go on to earn five more points in the 200m dash, finishing fifth with a time of 29.03. Emerson Pinger also earned point in the 200, finishing eighth and earning a further two points. 

Emerson added 10 points for a victory in the 400m run, running a career best 1:05.78.

Junior Anna Packer gave the Mount another solid performance in the 800m run, finishing in second place with a 2:30.80. That mark was Packer's career low in the 800m run and gave the Lions another eight team points. 

In the 1000m run it was once again a Lions win as Julia Gooding secured another 10 points for the team. Her time of 3:16.35 was another PR for the Lions.

The team of Pinger, Gooding, Packer and Sicilia Eshman finished third in the 4x400 relay, earning another six points. 

Freshman Josie Rigdon finished third in the pole vault, with a mark of 2.75m and earning the Lions a further six points. 

Londyn Frazier earned eight total points, finishing third in the triple jump and ninth in the long jump. 

In the throwing events they earned a total of 12 points. Madalyn Hudnall earned eight, finishing third in the shot put with a mark of 11.33m and seventh in the weight throw. Sienna Slaughter added four points of her own with a fifth place finish in the weight throw.

MEN'S RESULTS

On the men's side the Mount got off to a good start in the 60m dash. Kyle Evers Smith and Kendrick Sherrer finished third and fourth respectively, earning 14 points.

That duo finished first and second in the 200m dash as well, Evers Smith won the event with a time of 22.31. Chris Barrow finished in fourth as well in the event as they earned a further 22 points toward the team score.

Sherrer would continue his outstanding event in the 400m run, finishing in second earning another eight points. All told Sherrer earned 21 point by himself. 

Barrow would go on to add another six points in the long jump with a third place finish. Dylan Hammons added four more with a fifth place finish in the triple jump. 

UP NEXT:

Indoor track and field season has only a pair of events left. Next weekend the Lions will host their final event of the year in the Centennial Field House on the campus of MSJ. Then the Lions will head back to Anderson on March 1st for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
