Men's Track Finishes Sixth at HCAC's, Sheerer Named Newcomer of the Year

ANDERSON, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph men's track and field program finished sixth in the 2025 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday.

Freshman Kendrick Sheerer was named the 2025 Newcomer of the Year for his performance in the meet. Sheerer was a member of the Lions 4x200 meter relay team that finished fourth and he finished fourth in the 60 meter dash. He was also the HCAC champion in the 200 running a 22.74 to win the event. 

Kyle Evers Smith ran a school record and personal best 6.96 in the 60 meter dash preliminaries, eventually finishing third in the event. 

Zach McKenna ran a personal best 53.64 in the 400 meter run. Diego Yun ran the fourth fastest time in school history in the 200 with a 22.90 his personal best. 

Alex Schmidt ran the third best time in school history in the 5k with a 17:19, good for his personal best time. 

Earning points for the Lions in the event were Evers Smith and Sheerer in the 60m dash. The two finished in third and fourth earning 11 points. 

The team earned 21 points in the 200m dash, Sheerer got 10 for the win and Evers Smith and Yun finished third and fourth for another 11 points. 

The group of Sheerer, Yun, Evers Smith and Jalen Range finished fourth in the 4x200 earning the team 5 points.
