Cincinnati, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph Lions hosted Asbury University for a doubleheader at the MSJ Softball Complex, with the first pitch coming slightly ahead of schedule at 3:58 PM. After a slow start in game one, the Lions battled back to claim two hard-fought victories, sweeping the series impressively.
Game One: MSJ 5 – AU 4
The Eagles came out strong, capitalizing on gaps in the field to push across four runs in the top of the first inning. However, the Lions wasted no time responding, cutting the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning thanks to a
Shelby Rakosky triple and a Madison Kennedy sacrifice fly.
The offense stalled on both sides until the fifth inning, when Rakosky delivered again, smashing her second triple of the game to drive in two more runs and tie the score. The Lions kept the momentum rolling, stringing together key hits to take the lead, securing a 5-4 comeback win.
Game Two: MSJ 5 – AU 0
The Lions controlled game two from the start. They broke through in the second inning, capitalizing on an Asbury miscue before an
Avery Wiltermood sacrifice fly brought home pinch-runner
Skylar Fletcher for the first run.
MSJ added to their lead in the third, with Mack Lawson delivering a clutch base hit to move the loaded bases. Then, in a defining moment,
Lauryn Miller crushed a three-run homer down the right-field line, putting the game out of reach. The Lions' defense held strong, keeping Asbury off the scoreboard and sealing a dominant 5-0 victory.
Up Next: The Lions now shift their focus to HCAC play, hitting the road this weekend. They'll face Anderson University on Saturday, April 5th, before traveling to Manchester University for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 6th.
