LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The Mount St. Joseph softball program is on its way to the Heartland Collegiate Atheltic Conference tournament for the eighth consecutive season. Once again the tournament will be hosted by Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Lions under coach Goderwis earned the #2 seed in this tournament after putting together a 26-12 regular season and a 12-6 record in HCAC play.
They enter the tournament boasting the leagues top offense this season. As a team they enter the weekend hitting a league best .353 with 292 runs scored on the season. They are led by a trio of senior outfielders in
Emily McDonald,
Macy Cornelius and
Maddie Kennedy. McDonald leads that trio with a .398 average and is 22 for 24 on stolen base attempts, Cornelius the Lions leadoff hitter comes in hitting .358 and is 21 of 23 on stolen bases while Kennedy checks in at .347 with 9 doubles, 3 triples and 24 RBIs. Freshmen Mack Lawson and
Shelby Rakosky have been huge additions to the lineup this season. Lawson is hitting a team-leading .430 and is tied for the team lead with 4 homeruns, while Rakosky comes into the weekend hitting .374, with 4 homeruns and a team-leading 46 RBIs.
In the circle they are led by a trio of freshman,
Lesleigh Reimers,
Clare Lopeman and
Mollie Sharp. Reimers comes into the weekend with a 10-1 record and a 2.31 ERA, Lopeman is 6-4 with a 3.02 ERA and Sharp is 6-5 with a 3.53 ERA.
The Lions first game will be at 5:30 PM on Thursday where they will take on the winner of #3 Earlham vs. #6 Rose-Hulman.
