Box Score 2 NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph Lions wrapped up their weekend road trip with a Saturday doubleheader, taking on Case Western Reserve and Marietta. Despite two competitive matches, the Lions came up short in both, falling in four sets in each contest. Still, the team showed strong individual performances and continued to gain valuable experience heading into the heart of the season.
MATCH ONE: MSJ 1 – Case Western Reserve 3 (14-25, 21-25, 25-20, 22-25)
In the first match of the day, the Lions went toe-to-toe with a tough Case Western Reserve squad. Junior Emma Sicking led the charge with 17 kills on 50 total attempts, while also adding 16 digs for a well-rounded performance. Sophomore Aubrey Miranda added firepower with 14 kills on 38 attempts, and sophomore Sydney Doty contributed 10 kills on 28 swings in a balanced offensive showing.
Freshman Ava Moore had a standout match, racking up 44 assists as she directed a dynamic and diverse attack. On the defensive end, sophomore Lyndsey Stephenson posted 16 digs, and senior Hannah Graves followed closely with 15, keeping the Lions competitive in extended rallies.
After dropping the first two sets, MSJ bounced back with a strong third-set win but couldn't quite close the gap in a closely contested fourth.
MATCH TWO: MSJ 1 – Marietta 3 (12-25, 25-27, 25-21, 14-25)
The Lions returned to the court later in the day for their final match of the weekend, squaring off against Marietta. Junior Emma Sicking again delivered a strong all-around performance with 16 kills on 50 attempts and 16 digs. Senior Hannah Graves had a standout match of her own, tallying 14 kills on 56 attempts and adding 13 digs in a gritty effort on both sides of the ball.
Sophomore Ginger Johnson led the offense with 19 assists, while freshman Ava Moore added 17 more, continuing her productive weekend as part of the team's setting duo. Defensively, Lyndsey Stephenson recorded an impressive 31 digs to anchor the back row and provide key coverage throughout the match.
Despite winning the third set, the Lions couldn't sustain the momentum in the fourth, closing out the day with a pair of hard-fought losses.
UP NEXT: Mount St. Joseph women's volleyball returns to action on Friday, September 26, for another challenging road doubleheader in Ada, Ohio, where the Lions will face Ohio Northern and Otterbein. The team will look to regroup and capitalize on their experience as they continue pushing forward through non-conference play.
