Women's Volleyball Goes 2-0 on Day Two of Great Lakes Crossover

SANDUSKY, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph University women's volleyball team swept Kenyon and Wooster on the second day of the Great Lakes CrossOver event hosted by Heidelberg. After splitting their matches on Friday the Lions leave the event 3-1 on the season. 

MATCH ONE | MSJ 3 - Kenyon 0 (30-28, 25-23, 25-16)
In their first match of the day on Saturday, the Lions took down Kenyon in straight sets. The first set of the match, the Lions were unable to secure the victory before the 25-point threshold. They even faced a set point as Kenyon held onto a 24-23 lead late in the set. The Lions tied it at 24 and neither team was able to take the needed two-point to finish the set. Trailing 28-27, the Mount took three consecutive points to secure the first set. 

They would go on to win set two, again by a tight margin 25-23, and set three 25-16 to secure the match. 

Offensively Emma Sicking led the way with a match-high 12-kills, Sydney Doty was the only other Lion in double-figures with 11. Doty hit an unbelievable .688 in the match with her 11 kills coming on just 16 attempts with no errors. Ava Moore and Ginger Johnson handled the setting duties for the team, Moore had a team-high 22 assists while Johnson delivered 16. Defensively Lyndsey Stephenson had a match-high 19 digs, and Hannah Graves added 11. 

MATCH TWO | MSJ 3 - Wooster 0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-22)

In the team's second match of the day the Lions put on a dominant performance winning in straight sets including a 10-point win in the first set of the match.

Graves led the way for the team's offense in the match, as the lone Lion in double-figures with 12 kills and a .320 hitting percentage. Sicking added 8 kills and Aubrey Miranda added 7. Ava Moore once again led the team with 19 assists, and Johnson added 16. Stephenson had another great game with a match-high 23 digs.

UP NEXT:
The Lions will take to the court again on Friday, September 5th as they head to Berea, Ohio to take on Carnegie Melon, John Carrol and Baldwin Wallace.
