WILMINGTON, OHIO — The Mount St. Joseph University men's soccer team lost its first match of the season, falling 3-0 to Wilmington University on Saturday afternoon and moving to 3-1-2 on the season.

Early in the match, Presley Boyle had an opportunity in the eighth minute, but the Wilmington goalkeeper made the save. Later in the half, in the 34th minute, Aidan Sweeney had a shot that nearly broke the scoreless tie, but it was also saved. The Lions and Quakers would head into halftime tied 0-0. Mount goalkeeper Carson Sabers made seven first-half saves to help preserve the tie.

In the second half, Sabers made three more saves to help keep the game knotted at 0-0. Presley Boyle, Ben Pechous, and JT Roden each had shots as the Lions continued to pressure the Wilmington defense. In the 75th minute, Wilmington broke through to take a 1-0 lead. The Quakers added two more goals in the 82nd and 88th minutes, extending their lead to 3-0, which would be the final score.

UP NEXT: The Mount will host Wabash College, which enters the matchup with a 7-1-1 record, at Schueler Field on Wednesday, September 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
