JACKSONVILLE, Illinois - The Mount St. Joseph women's volleyball team hit the road this weekend heading to Illinois College to take part in a tournament. The Lions went 3-0 on the weekend defeating Loras, Greenville and Illinois College.
MATCH ONE | MSJ 3 - Loras 1 (25-15, 22-25, 26-24, 25-3)
In the Lions lone Friday match of the weekend they were led offensively by
Grace Crider and
Mary Kolozsy who each registered nine kills in the match.
They got a huge service match with 14 aces as a team led by an outstanding 6 from
Ginger Johnson, who all dished out a team-high 19 assists.
Defensively
Claudia Mueller led the way with 3 blocks and libero
Lyndsey Stephenson registered 14 digs.
MATCH TWO | MSJ 3 - Greenville 2 (25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 22-25, 15-8)
To open Saturday's double-header the Lions had a five set marathon vs. Greenville. The Mount took the first two sets, before Greenville raillied to even it with wins in the third and fourth. The Lions took the fifth set decisively 15-8.
A trio of Lions had double-digit kills in the match led by Kolozsy who had a match-high 15, she was joined by
Aubrey Miranda and Krider who each had 10.
They once again had double-digit team aces with
Sydney Doty leading the way with five.
Johnson dished out 26 assists while
Ava Moore added 21. Miranda, Doty and Mueller each registered 4 blocks. Moore added 10 digs while Stephenson (17) and
Tori Chasteen (15) added double-figures.
MATCH THREE | MSJ 3 - Illinois College 0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-23)
Despite winning in straight sets in the weekend finale the match with the weekend host was extremely tight.
Etellina Jackson led the offensive charge with a team-high 9 kills in the match.
The Lions continued to have success from the service line with eight aces in the match, led by Crider with 3.
Johnson (18) and Moore (12) combined for 30 assists in the match. Moore led the team with 12 digs while Stephenson added 10.
UP NEXT: The Mount will head to another tournament next weekend this one hosted by Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana. They will play two matches Friday and two Saturday.
